The Wine
Winding Wood Vineyard specialises exclusively in English sparkling wine, crafted using the traditional method (Méthode Champenoise) from classic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varieties. Their range includes a Brut, a Brut Rosé, and a Demi-Sec.The vineyard has garnered significant recognition for its wines, winning numerous gold medals and achieving top honours at national wine competitions. In 2024, their Brut Rosé 2020 received both a gold medal and the Trophy for Best Sparkling Rosé at the WineGB Awards, as well as a gold medal and the Trophy for Top Sparkling Wine at the Independent English Wine Awards. Their Brut Reserve 2018 also secured a gold medal at the WineGB Awards 2024.
Winding Wood Vineyard is deeply committed to sustainable practices. Following a three-year conversion period, the vineyard became both Organic and Demeter certified at the end of 2024, making it one of only a handful of vineyards in England and Wales with these certifications. They embrace a biodynamic approach, employing regenerative methods such as no-till under the vines, continuous soil improvement, avoiding synthetic chemicals, and using plant-based teas to build vine resistance.
While the vineyard meticulously tends its hand-harvested grapes, the winemaking itself is done off-site by Daniel Ham of Offbeat Wines, located near Salisbury. The wines are aged for a minimum of 24 months on their yeast lees, followed by 6 months resting on cork before release.
