The Wine

Velfrey Vineyard specialises in producing award-winning sparkling and still white and rosé Welsh wines, using grapes such as Seyval Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Solaris. Their portfolio includes the traditional method sparkling wines like the Velfrey NV, made from Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir, which ages on lees for 18 months, developing rich, biscuity notes with fresh citrus flavours. They also produce the Rhosyn sparkling rosé and single varietal still white wines from Solaris grapes. In 2021, they introduced Naturiol, a natural skin-contact still single varietal from Seyval grapes, which undergoes natural fermentation.

Velfrey Vineyard's wines have garnered significant recognition. Their Velfrey NV Traditional Method PGI Welsh Sparkling Wine won Best Sparkling White Wine at the Welsh Wine Awards 2024, where they also secured second and third places for their still white and sparkling rosé. The Velfrey NV has also received a Master medal from the Glass of Bubbly Awards in 2022 and was selected as a Top 100 UK Wine by WineGB. Both the Velfrey NV and Rhosyn 2021 have been awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, certifying their link to the Pembrokeshire region.

The vineyard is committed to sustainable viticulture, focusing on low intervention practices and healthy vines. They employ natural products such as plant tisanes, compost teas, seaweed, and Epsom salts to maintain vine health. While Velfrey Vineyard manages its vines meticulously and oversees the winemaking process, their wines are produced in Wales by an external winemaker.
