The Wine
Tinwood Estate specializes in producing world-class English Sparkling Wines using the traditional method, a testament to the quality of the soil and location in Sussex. Their portfolio primarily includes three varieties: Blanc de Blancs (made from 100% Chardonnay grapes), Brut (a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier), and Rosé (a blend featuring Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay). They also produce a limited edition Blanc de Noir. The wines have garnered numerous accolades, with their Blanc de Blancs being particularly celebrated. Tinwood was named English Vineyard of the Year 2023 by the Travel and Hospitality Awards. Their Blanc de Blancs 2017 received Gold awards at both the International Wine Challenge (IWC) and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2022. Other notable awards include Silver and Bronze medals for their Blanc de Blancs, Brut, and Rosé across various vintages in the IWSC and IWC competitions. Sussex wine has also been granted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, recognizing its quality and geographical provenance.
The estate prioritizes working with nature, implementing sustainable practices such as avoiding insecticides, planting wildflower meadows, new hedgerows, and wildflowers among the vines to promote biodiversity. They also have beehives on the property. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the vineyard benefits from estate-owned land encompassing both chalk and greensand soil types.
