The Wine
Terlingham Vineyard cultivates Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Bacchus, Dornfelder, and Rondo grapes, benefiting from chalky terroir similar to that found in France's Champagne region. From these grapes, they produce a diverse range of still white, red, and rosé wines, alongside their popular sparkling white and pink varieties. The vineyard's wines have garnered several accolades, including a bronze award for their 2015 sparkling wine at the Independent English Wine Awards, and a Wine GB 2020 Silver. Terlingham is also proud of its gold-award-winning gin.
Sustainability is central to Terlingham's operations. The vineyard employs natural farming methods, proudly producing natural wine and being certified by Sustainable Wines of Great Britain. They practice regenerative farming, focusing on enhancing soil health and promoting biodiversity, which has contributed to the vineyard being carbon negative with a footprint of minus 12 tonnes. They minimize interventions, use paper-based labels, and have transitioned to screwcaps for their still wines. The vineyard aims for full organic certification by 2025.
Terlingham Vineyard operates one of the UK's smallest commercial wineries on site, where wines are produced by hand. They also collaborate with Defined Wine to bring additional expertise to their winemaking process.
