The Wine
Pinglestone Estate specialises in crafting traditional method English sparkling wines. The vineyard cultivates classic Champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and also Pinot Gris.The sparkling wines produced from Pinglestone grapes are award-winning. Notably, the Louis Pommery England label, which uses fruit from the estate, received gold medals in 2016 and 2017. This brand holds the distinction of being the first English sparkling wine to be released by a Champagne house.
The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture, implementing regenerative farming practices that champion local biodiversity. Pinglestone Estate was certified as a 'Sustainable Wine of Great Britain' in 2021. Their approach includes balancing the vines with existing natural habitats, encouraging insect, bird, and invertebrate life, planting wildflowers, avoiding herbicide application, and reducing pesticide use. They have also introduced beehives to the vineyard and dedicate areas for biodiversity, including woods, isolated trees, hedges, and grass for sheep grazing.
While the estate has secured planning permission for its own on-site winery, expected to be ready for the 2025 vintage, wines are currently produced at Hattingley Valley's facilities. The future winery will be dedicated solely to producing Pinglestone's own sparkling wines.
