The Wine

Mannings Heath Wine Estate, part of the Benguela Collection, cultivates 30 acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier on its protected south-facing slopes, with a focus on producing English sparkling wines. The first vintage of their estate English sparkling wine was expected in 2023.

The estate's English sparkling wines, branded under Leonardslee Family Vineyards, have quickly gained recognition. The Leonardslee Brut Reserve 2021 was awarded Gold and named "Best Sustainable Wine of Great Britain" at the 2025 WineGB Awards, receiving 94 points from the International Wine Challenge 2025 and 95 points in Decanter's Vintage English Sparkling Panel Tasting 2025. Their 2021 Brut Rosé and 2020 Blanc de Blancs also received 90 points each at the International Wine Challenge 2025. Head winemaker Johann Fourie, who also oversees their South African vineyards, guides the development of the vines and the winemaking process.

Viticulture Practices

The vineyard operates under the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) guidelines, ensuring environmentally friendly farming methods with a commitment to avoiding harmful pesticides and chemicals where possible. They are members of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, actively implementing practices like drone imaging for vineyard management, organic mulching, and biological control agents to promote soil health and minimize environmental impact.

Winery

The estate features its own winery, reflecting the owner's vision to produce high-quality English wines on-site. While developing its own English wines, the estate also offers wine tasting experiences that often feature selections from its highly acclaimed sister estate, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa, which has won numerous prestigious awards, including 5-star ratings in Platter's Guide and multiple gold medals.
