The Wine

Greyfriars Vineyard primarily produces award-winning English sparkling wines from its 40-acre site. The vineyards are predominantly planted with the classic Champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. They also cultivate smaller plots of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc for their still wine production, reflecting the unique terroir of the Surrey North Downs.

The vineyard's wines have received significant critical acclaim and numerous awards in international competitions since their first release in 2013. Notable accolades include two gold medals in the Wines of Great Britain Awards 2022, and further golds at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2024 and Wine GB Awards 2023 for their Classic Cuvée 2015. Their Goldenford Chardonnay 2022 also secured a Gold at the Wine GB Awards 2024. The vineyard has also won the International Wine Challenge 2019 English Sparkling Rose Trophy for their 2014 Rose Reserve, and a Gold Medal in the Sommelier Wine Awards 2019 for their Non-Vintage Rosé.

Greyfriars operates a state-of-the-art winery and an impressive 3,500 sq. ft natural chalk underground cellar, dug in 2017, for ageing their wines. The vineyard benefits from its south-facing slopes and free-draining chalk soils, similar to those found in the Champagne region, which are ideal for growing high-quality grapes. The wines are "Estate Grown and Bottled," signifying full control over the production process from grape to bottle.
