The Wine
Digby Fine English specialises in producing a range of award-winning English sparkling wines, crafted using the Traditional Method. Their wines predominantly feature the classic Champagne varietals: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. Operating on a négociant model, Digby meticulously sources the finest grapes from partner vineyards across the chalk-rich and diverse terroirs of Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and Dorset. The winemaking itself occurs a few miles outside Arundel, in Madehurst.Digby has garnered significant recognition for its quality. Their 2013 Vintage Reserve Brut was crowned 'Supreme Champion' at the 2023 WineGB Awards, also securing titles for 'Best Vintage Classic Cuvée', 'Top Sparkling', and the South East regional trophy. The Leander Pink has earned 'Best in Class' at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine Awards and multiple Gold medals, while their Brut NV received Gold at the WineGB awards in 2021 and a Platinum award with 97 points in Decanter in 2019.
In terms of sustainability, Digby is committed to consciously reducing its environmental footprint. This includes using lighter glass bottles (15% less CO2 to manufacture), 100% natural corks that boast a negative carbon footprint, eco-friendly foils, and recycled, recyclable packaging. Their vineyard partners, including their own Hilden Vineyard, incorporate practices like hosting beehives to maintain natural balance. Many of their wines are also vegan friendly.
