The Wine
Chilford Hall Vineyard produces a diverse portfolio of high-quality English wines, including red, white, rosé, and sparkling varieties. The vineyard, spanning over 40 acres, cultivates nine different grape varieties, including traditional Germanic varieties such as Müller-Thurgau, Schönburger, Ortega, Reichensteiner, and Siegerrebe, as well as Pinot Noir, Rondo, Regent, and Dornfelder. Their wines are characterised by clean flavours, a fragrant nose, fruity body, and good acidity. The estate's wines have garnered numerous awards and accolades over recent years, establishing a reputation for consistent quality. Visitors can explore their collection of award-winning wines at the on-site shop.
The vineyard is set on south-west-facing slopes, with free-draining, flinty soil over chalk, a terroir composition reminiscent of France's Champagne region. The grapes are cultivated using traditional and sustainable methods, and the wines are crafted exclusively from estate-grown grapes, ensuring quality and authenticity. Chilford Hall also boasts its own winery on site, overseeing the winemaking process from vine to bottle. Mark Barnes has managed the vineyard and served as winemaker since 2006.
