What's the vibe

Cary Wine Estate offers a refined and intimate English wine experience, set amidst the beautiful rural landscape of Kent. It's a family-run operation focused on crafting high-quality, small-batch wines that truly express the terroir of their free-draining chalk soils.

Cary Wine Estate is primarily open for pre-booked experiences rather than casual drop-ins.

  • Tours: Guided vineyard tours and tastings are available, lasting approximately two hours and including a walk through the estate followed by a tasting of their full wine range. These must be arranged directly with the estate after purchase.
  • Regular Openings: The vineyard does not have regular public opening hours.
  • Restaurant/Cafe: There is no restaurant or cafe on site.
  • Accommodation: No on-site accommodation is available.
  • Special Events: Beyond the private tours, the estate is in the process of expanding their offerings and aims "in due course to open our vineyards up to tours and tastings", suggesting future potential for additional events. For specific policies regarding children or dogs, it is best to contact the vineyard directly.

The Wine

Cary Wine Estate excels in producing a range of still English wines, including their refreshing Provender Rosé, the elegant Old Rectory Chardonnay, and the distinctive Cherry Orchard Pinot Noir. They are also anticipating the release of a classic English Sparkling wine, their Cary Classic Cuvée, in 2025, which is currently undergoing the traditional bottle fermentation process.

The vineyard has quickly gained recognition for its quality, winning silver medals at the WineGB 2023 awards for both their 2022 Old Rectory Chardonnay and 2022 Cherry Orchard Pinot Noir, an impressive feat on their first attempt. The Cherry Orchard Pinot Noir 2022 also secured a medal at the WineGB Awards in 2024.

In terms of viticulture, Cary Wine Estate is committed to sustainable practices, focusing on minimizing their carbon footprint and promoting biodiversity through initiatives such as cultivating wild flower meadows and implementing minimal mowing. The grapes are grown on Kent's free-draining chalk soils, a terroir comparable to that of the Champagne region. While the grapes are estate-grown, the winemaking is handled by a local contract winemaker situated only a few miles away, ensuring minimal 'grape miles'.
