The Wine

Calancombe Estate produces a range of high-quality English wines, including sparkling white and rosé, still white, and, in exceptional summers, still red wine, from grapes grown exclusively on the estate. Key grape varieties cultivated include Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir Précoce, and Chardonnay. Beyond wine, the estate also crafts sparkling cyder and cassis from their own apples and blackcurrants. They also produce Dartmouth English Gin and Dartmouth Navy Strength Gin.

The wines have received significant recognition. Calancombe Estate was awarded two silver medals at the 2023 WineGB Awards for their Pinot Gris 2022 and Bacchus 2022. The Blanc de Noirs 2018 and Bacchus 2022 also secured silver awards at the Independent English Wine Awards. Additionally, their Vintage Reserve received a Silver medal in 2020 and Bronze in 2022 at the WineGB awards.

The vineyard operates its own modern winery on-site, undertaking all aspects of winemaking from hand-picking grapes to bottling and labelling. While not explicitly certified Organic or Regenerative, Calancombe Estate is committed to sustainability and biodiversity. They consciously avoid monoculture by planting a variety of fruit trees and blackcurrant bushes, practice composting of grape and blackcurrant skins, and utilise solar power for their winery operations.
