The Wine

Black Mountain Vineyard cultivates a variety of grapes on its south-facing slope in Turnastone, Herefordshire. Initially planted between 2009-2010 with classic varieties such as Pinot Meunier, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, the vineyard further expanded its plantings in 2020 to include hybrid varieties like Phoenix, Solaris, and Cabernet Cortis. This diverse planting allows them to produce a range of artisan natural wines, with a particular focus on excellent sparkling wines.

The vineyard operates its own small, rustic, and off-grid winery, established in 2013 for their first harvest. Here, winemaking is approached with a low-intervention philosophy, ensuring the wines are handcrafted with minimal equipment and gentle handling. Grapes are pressed slowly in small batches, utilizing various fermentation vessels, and critically, the wines are never fined, filtered, or have sulphur added.

Committed to sustainable practices, Black Mountain Vineyard has been certified organic through the Soil Association since 2018. They employ Korean Natural Farming methods to foster living soil, aiming for a minimal environmental impact both on their vineyard and the wider ecosystem.
